The concept of static and dynamic are still a bit confusing for me to grasp. In my mind something that is static means that it remains unchanged or non-interactive. So, given this idea, I was not able to connect something that is static with collaboration as collaboration is interactive and static does not seem to match this.
I looked up the word static and came up with:
Synonyms: immobile, nonmoving, standing, stationary and a : standing or fixed in one place : stationary Merriam-Webster online dictionary. With this definition, how does collaboration work? If one sends an email, there is a hope that someone will respond to the email, but no guarantee that a response will be forthcoming. Would this be static or are we at the point of memo in hard copy format? Sorry, I am not getting the concept of static versus dynamic.
Are we looking at the meta-cognitive level of interaction? If this is the case, then I get it. If one just follows the directions and does not have to invest any thought process into the activity other than following written or verbal directions then this would be static. If one is given a day to plan out the events, a certain amount of miles that can be driven and a specified amount of time to accomplish all of the tasks, then this would required critical thinking. Using the GPS, mobile phone, Internet, and other technical devices to figure out all of the calculations would require higher-level thinking and planning.
So what does this have to do with online learning? If one were to implement technology to increase the meta-cognitive level of thinking, then having a student go online and take a survey would be a static assignment, and would require very little higher level thinking. On the other hand, if the individual was required to develop a game, project, research using technology connected to the information being learned, then this would require the learner to apply the learning at a different level then just giving back the information.
I posted my map…making these maps make me physically sick. Call it an OCD thing or something like that, they are messy, are to read, make no sense, and non linear. I will put one together, but Never, Ever use one because my mind simply does not know what to do with all of the mess on the page. Just one of those things; not sure why I function this way, but I just do. My map is not as complete as maybe it could be simply because I am not grasping the concept of static and dynamic yet…still working on it. Example in paper written by Leslie Moller is somewhat helpful (TV being static and virtual reality being dynamic).

Considering the concept of static versus dynamic technologies, create a concept map of key media and technology used in distance education. In Module 4, you explored technology that helps engage learners in content generation, communication, and collaboration. In your concept map for this module, build on those ideas by identifying at least three technologies and media (both static and dynamic) for each of the following: content generation, communication, and collaboration.

    This article is amazing to read. I really enjoyed reading this one from the perspective it presents. Perhaps it explains why the education field is the last to make the changes necessary to move the world forward...

    A second source is a rather interesting blog. I was interested in the ideas presented, but the person in charge, seems to drop the ball. He suggests ideas, but does not tell you how or why.
